For most of human history, people operated without clocks. Before the sundial gave way to more modern means of keeping time, eventually leading to computers in our pockets syncing us down to the second, people depended on nature’s cues. The sun’s rising and setting, along with its daily trek across the sky, directed daily activities.
Today’s technology, while helpful, can feel confining. We are driven by the clock, which can cause us to rush past a day’s most important priorities, such as prayer. By stepping back into creation’s rhythms, we can hone habits of intimacy with our Creator. Here are three Scriptures to pray at sunrise.
In 2 Thessalonians 3:16, the apostle Paul prayed these powerful words over the believers: “Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in every way.” As the sun climbs above the horizon, we can ask God to envelop us in His peace throughout the coming hours.
Dear God, let no moment of this day be void of Your peace. You stand outside time’s confines and fully know everything I will encounter today. If surprising news or unexpected circumstances arise, let me remain stable and steadfast, secure in Your perfect peace.

It is estimated that we make around 35,000 decisions every day. Decision fatigue can wear on our minds and spirits as we weigh options and possible outcomes. We can break free from the burden of choices by laying every decision in God’s capable hands at sunrise. James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
Dear God, you know every decision I will encounter today. There are an overwhelming number of options, choices, and directions facing me. Help me not to be paralyzed by indecision or fear but to confidently walk forward in Your wisdom, power, and love.

While dawn refreshes the landscape and brings excitement, we can struggle to sustain that optimism throughout the passing hours. We are well familiar with energy’s tendency to dwindle. Dawn is a perfect time to ask God for consistent physical, mental, and spiritual strength for whatever the day brings. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
Dear God, I know that my strength for today is insufficient. Empower me with Your love and endless reserve of might. Let me not give in to dismay or discouragement but uphold me by Your capable hands.
