3 Biblical Promises for Your Child to Bring Back to School

As children return to school this season, their emotions can easily overwhelm them. Maybe your child is excited about the coming year and eager to see friends and teachers. However, there may be apprehension at what a new year brings, nervousness about academic challenges, or uncertainty around friendships or where they fit in. The challenges and experiences at school can become a training ground for practicing leaning not on their own understanding but onto God’s peace and promises.

We cannot go with our children into every situation, but we can give them an awareness of God, who is always with them. Give your child confidence for the coming school year as you equip them with the following promises from God’s Word.

3 Biblical Promises for Your Child to Bring Back to School

1. God Has Great Plans For Us

Our children are growing up in a society plagued by uncertainty and confusion. Yet we can equip them to live confidently as they remember that God has good plans for their lives, and His plans always prevail!

1. Listen together to Plans I Have For You

2. Read the lyrics together:

For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord

I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord

They are plans for good and not for harm

Plans to give you hope and a future

I will light your way and see you through

I have great plans for you, says the Lord

So be confident in the work I’ve started in you

You can put your trust in the author of your story

Know that I have great things for you

3. Recite Jeremiah 29:11:

“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the LORD. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”

4. Pray together:

Dear Lord, I know You have great plans for my life. In every hard thing today, help me to remember that You want to grow my faith and draw me closer to You. In every good thing, help me to give thanks. In every challenge or if anything is confusing, remind me that Your plans are best. I can better understand those plans by reading Your Word, praying, and listening to Your Holy Spirit. I trust Your good plans, amen.

2. God Gives Us Strength And Courage

As our children set their minds on God’s good plans, they can walk bravely through school halls and into conversations with friends and teachers. We can help our children understand that true bravery comes from God. We can turn to Him for confidence, wisdom, and peace whenever we feel afraid or anxious.

1. Listen together to Be Strong And Courageous

2. Read the lyrics together:

Be strong and courageous

Don’t be afraid

Strong and courageous

Do not be dismayed

For I am with you

Wherever you will go

I am your God

You’ll never walk alone

So be strong

3. Recite Joshua 1:9:

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

4. Pray together:

Dear Lord, You know everything I will face today, this week, and this year. When I want to shrink back in fear or feel anxious about what is happening around me, surround me with Your perfect peace. Make me brave as I remember that You are for me. May my confidence always come from You, and may others see Your strength in my life, amen.

3. God Is Watching Over Us

Our children can internalize God’s promises of good plans, strength, and courage as they learn to recognize His presence daily. We can have deeper peace as our children head off to school, knowing they are resting in God’s nearness and aware that He is watching over them.

1. Listen together to Watching Over You

2. Read the lyrics together:

I am watching over you

Ever watching over you

With you through the night

And by the light of day

I am watching over you

Ever watching over you

Never will I sleep

You’re Mine to keep always

I will protect you as you come and when you go

You are safe in My shadow

You’ll never be alone

And when you feel afraid

Know that you can call My name

I am with you

I am for you

I will protect you as you come and when you go

You are strong and courageous

You are fearless and brave because you know

I am with you right now

3. Recite Psalm 118:6:

“The LORD is for me, so I will have no fear…”

4. Pray together:

Dear Lord, thank you for never looking away from me. You know everything I will face today, and You walk with me into those situations. I do not need to fear what today or tomorrow will bring because You are always watching over me, amen.
