We encounter a myriad of opportunities every day, yet many turn up empty or lacking. We might place our hope in a promise or guarantee only to end up disappointed. Some things don’t hold up to their claim. Yet, that is not the way God operates. In John 10:10, Jesus said, “…I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” His promise is not too good to be true. In fact, it is the epitome of truth, and we can experience the reality of His abundant life through His presence, kingdom, and love.
Not long after Jesus spoke about abundant life in John 10:10, He left His followers and returned to heaven. What might they have thought? The One who promised a life fuller than they could imagine was gone. We can experience a similar hopelessness when we feel far from God. Yet Jesus told His followers it was better for Him to leave because He would send the Holy Spirit to live inside them. God Himself would dwell with them, and we have the same powerful presence available to us. We can experience God’s presence more deeply as we meditate on and pray through His Word. In John 14:26, Jesus told His followers this about the Holy Spirit: “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”
We can live in Christ’s abundant life as we experience God’s presence inside us.
Dear God, You have granted me new and abundant life by sending Your Spirit to live inside me. Help me draw near and experience Your presence more each day.
Jesus’ abundant life cannot be defined by human terms or calculated by earthly measures. It is a divine, supernatural, and superior life only available through God. As we follow Christ, we are invited deeper into His plans and purposes, which ripple into eternity. He makes joy and contentment available on earth while we set our sights heavenward. He transforms our desires and sets us free from temporary preoccupations. We are no longer weighed down by earthly burdens or distractions. Colossians 3:1 says, “Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”
We can experience Christ’s abundant life as we set our hearts on things above and on God’s everlasting kingdom.
Dear God, Your kingdom is far greater than anything I can imagine. Help me set my gaze on heaven and live in Your abundance.
God never intended for us to live apart from His love. To not experience His love is to never fully live. He is not only an exemplary model of love; He is the very definition of it. 1 John 4:16 says, “God is love.” Christ’s abundant life and God’s perfect love are intricately connected. As we experience Christ’s abundant life, we better understand God’s love for us. And we enjoy unearthly freedom and profound peace as we anchor our lives in God’s love.
Dear God, Your love is at the center of an abundant life. Help me to experience Your love more fully each day.
While on earth, we’ll struggle to fully understand the abundant life Christ promised. However, we can live fully as we enjoy God’s presence, live for His kingdom, and rest in His perfect love.
