Motherhood is a beautiful, sanctifying, and challenging journey. Along the way and with every unexpected turn, none of us is immune to fear or anxiety. When anxiety does enter in, it can be hard to breathe, let alone place one foot in front of the other and take care of the children God has given us. This is exactly what Hannah was facing in 2012 when her anxiety became suffocating. Overwhelmed by hopelessness, Hannah asked to be admitted into a hospital when her Generalized Anxiety Disorder became too much to manage.

Even in those dark places — perhaps especially in those dark places — God holds onto His children. Just as Isaiah 41:10 says, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” This was the promise God had for Hannah, and He was about to communicate it to her in an unexpected way.

After she was gifted a “Hidden In My Heart” CD, Hannah began playing it for her son as he slept.

“I liked the idea of him being covered in the Word of God as he fell asleep,” Hannah shared. 

But very quickly, God’s promises began bringing her peace through the music, too. She purchased the other “Hidden In My Heart” CDs, along with Scripture Lullabies’ two instrumental piano albums, and the music began making a big impact in her heart and home. 

“I truly believe in the power of having Scripture sung and spoken over us to defeat the enemy,” Hannah said. 

It was the power of God’s Word set to music that helped her set her heart on Christ and His peace throughout her battle with anxiety. 

“During that season,” she shared, “I would play Scripture Lullabies faithfully to help me fix my eyes, hope, and thoughts on God! I learned some breathing techniques for my anxiety that I paired with the music that I use to this day when I fly or find myself in a high-anxiety time. I fully believe that those CDs battled for me when I had no words or strength to battle myself.”

Wherever we are in this life, whatever roles we fill — mother, father, sister, brother, friend, pastor, grandparent, employee — anxiety can come upon us at the least expected moments and threaten to overwhelm us with darkness. Hannah experienced this firsthand, but she also witnessed the power of God’s Word extinguish those anxieties and fight on her behalf. As we listen to the words of Isaiah 40:10 set to music in “I Am Here,” we’re assured,

“Do not fear for I am with you

Do not be dismayed

For I am here, I am your God, I am here…

So take courage for I am with you

I will never let you go”
