Amid life’s storms, it can be challenging to trust that God can calm the buffeting winds of circumstances. We might think about Jesus on a boat lurching on a turbulent sea and hear His words in Mark 4:39, “Peace! Be still!” And yet, we might doubt His ability to speak calm into our situations. However, Jesus’ words were more demanding than we might first realize. He was not making a mere request of the natural elements. The Hebrew word for “peace” means “an involuntary stillness and an ability to speak.” The words “be still” convey “being placed into check or muzzled.” Jesus displayed complete control of the circumstances. Psalm 89:9 points to this divine level of power, “You rule the raging of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them.” When Jesus spoke, “Peace! Be still!” He exhibited authority over nature and holds the same power in our lives.
Just as Jesus’ words subdued the waves and wind, God’s words can calm our inner storms. As we meditate on Scripture, we can experience freedom from fear and anxiety. Here are 10 Scriptures for peace in life’s storms.
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26
“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, ‘Peace, be still!’ And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39
“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
“You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, for in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3-4
“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him.” Psalm 62:5
“The LORD gives His people strength. The LORD blesses them with peace.” Psalm 29:11
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for You alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.” Psalm 4:8

Listen to Peace, Be Still from Hidden In My Heart, Volume III
Waves are crashing all around
Thunder roars as rain pours down
I am so afraid
There’s no shelter I can find
My heart pounds as waters rise
Hope is far away
Then I hear You say
Peace, be still
Peace, be still
There’s no need to worry
