Have you ever felt strong one day only to sense that resilience fading with the setting sun, leaving you weak and perhaps vulnerable the next? Power and courage can be fickle when they are attached to our emotions or shifting conditions. Instead, if we source our strength from God, whose capacity is endless, we can enjoy living in God’s power no matter what we face.
It is easy to become overwhelmed and consumed by pressing circumstances and immediate challenges. As we lift our gaze heavenward, we can glimpse God’s overarching power that raised Jesus from the dead. His power can revolutionize our lives. Jesus promised His disciples, those who followed Him closely during His ministry on earth, power from God Himself. In Acts 1:8, He told them, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
What empowered the disciples? The Holy Spirit—God’s very Spirit—dwelling within them. When we follow Jesus, the same Spirit resides in us, imparting the same power. This is not just any power, but the very power God used to raise Jesus from the dead. Ephesians 1:19-21 speaks of this: “…His incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms.” This power is not distant or impersonal, but deeply personal, connecting us to God in a profound way.
He does not offer us a watered-down version of His power. Instead, we can access the full breadth of His strength for navigating life and impacting those around us. Of course, this doesn’t mean every solution and victory will look like we imagine. God’s power is displayed in our lives for His glory rather than our own. You can confidently wait on God’s power in your life because His timing and strength are perfect for your needs. Psalm 73:26 says, “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” God Himself is our strength.
The same divine power God used to raise Christ and defeat death resides in us. In both Acts 1, where Jesus promised power to the disciples, and Ephesians 1, where we are promised the same power, the Greek word for power is dunamis, where we get the word dynamite. It is an exceptional level and quality of power that leaves nothing around it unchanged.
The same word has been translated in Scripture as miracle. What miracles or instances of divine power has God performed in your life? Write a list of how you have seen Him work in ways only He can. Look through past pictures and hunt for signs of His intercessions.
Has He provided what you need at just the right time? Has He brought healing to your mind, body, spirit, or to a loved one? Has He brought solutions or answers that reflect His divine wisdom and knowledge above and beyond earthly understanding? Looking closely, we can notice instances of God’s power in the nooks and crannies of our days. His dunamis—dynamite—power shapes our lives.
After listing ways you have seen God’s power at work, write a prayer asking Him to bring that power into specific areas of your life.
Pray the following prayer or write your own:
Dear God, Your power is like nothing on earth. In fact, You used that power to form the earth and everything in it. I know Your divine power is available to me. Help me to access it every day. May I reflect on the day You raised Jesus from the dead and the power You exerted. Show me what that power looks like in my everyday life. Help me to see each time You bring that power into my circumstances and to be hyper-aware of Your interventions. May I access Your dunamis power and may those around me see You at work in and through my life.
Whom have I in heaven but You
There is nothing on earth I desire beside You
My heart and my flesh will fail me
But I know this truth will remain
God, You are the strength of my heart
And my portion forever, forever
God, You are the strength of my heart
And my portion forever, Lord you are my strength
